New Jersey Requires Employers to Provide Notice on Tracking Devices in Vehicles

Effective April 18, 2022, employers in New Jersey are required to provide a written notice to employees before using “electronic or mechanical devices” that are “designed or intended to be used for the sole purpose of tracking the movement of a vehicle, person, or device.” The notification requirement applies whether the vehicle is owned/leased by the company or the employee.

There is an exception if the tracking device is used solely to document employee expense reimbursement.
