Washington State Updates Paid Sick Leave

Washington employers must provide non-exempt employees with at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours the employee works, which employees may use for certain legally protected reasons, and allow employees to carry over 40 unused hours each year.
Also, the definition of who is considered an employee’s family member or child for purposes of using paid sick leave has been expanded.
These changes went into effect on January 1, 2025.
