Cook County, Illinois Revises Paid Leave Ordinance

On April 10, 2025, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved further revisions to the Commission on Human Rights’ regulations implementing the county’s paid leave ordinance, such as accrual during leave, disciplinary leave usage, and payment timing.  

Employers should determine whether and how (if at all) the revised rules impact their paid leave policies and practices. If the revisions impact an employer’s policy, and it intends to revise that policy, employers must notify employees of changes to their policy in writing within five days of making the changes.
